What is “reframing”?
“Cognitive reframing is a psychological technique that consists of identifying and then changing the way situations, experiences, events, ideas, and/or emotions are viewed.” (Wikipedia)
Reframing your perspective is about changing how you think about a situation. It’s looking at a problem from a new angle and finding a new perspective. Reframing can help you see things differently and even help you find new solutions to old problems. It’s seeing opportunities instead of problems or using bad news as motivation not discouragement. It’s like spin- but it’s not. Spin is about diversion and covering up. When you reframe something, you’re not trying to hide reality, you’re trying to see reality in a new light. Reframing is essential. You must be able to look at things in new ways and envision your next move (or moves).
